Elizabeth Waite: Parent to Parent - A Mother's Experience

We had the chance to interview Elizabeth Waite's mother. She has some advice for parents when getting into the entertainment industry. This is her story.

Elizabeth Waite - One Source Talent

Elizabeth Waite came to One Source Talent at the end of August after going to two different companies. They applied on our website and were invited in for an evaluation. The family came in on a Thursday, learned about the company and Elizabeth was invited back for a second appointment. Cindy, her mother, said, "All three of us were in the hallway after and we all looked at each other and said this is it! This is where we should have started."

When we asked her why they felt that way she said, "You were honest. You were truthful and said I think she has potential, but we can't guarantee her work. You critiqued and were honest even if I didn't want to hear it. One Source Talent's process is reassuring. You made sure this was something she wanted to do."

Elizabeth became a talent with us and we took some Polaroid's of her. They decided it would be best if she got some professional photos. Elizabeth's mother had previously hired a photographer that shot Elizabeth, but they thought she needed stronger photos. Elizabeth used her own money that she was saving for a car to pay for her shoot with photographer Rex Lott. When Cindy asked her if she was sure she wanted to use her car savings for a photo shoot Elizabeth replied, " I know I can do this. I'm confident I have what it takes, I just need the chance to prove it."

That was all Cindy needed to hear from her then 14-year-old daughter. "She really felt she could do this, that's what drove me. She really wants this and thinks she can do it."

After getting her new photos, we electronically sent Elizabeth's comp card to some New York agencies.  We got an immediate response from Click Models and just before the holiday she was signed to the agency.

"You give us such great advice. You answer any questions we have. We couldn't have done it without you."

Elizabeth just went on her first casting to Seventeen Magazine, and has an audition this Friday for Target. She has her first test shoot scheduled with Click Models in two weeks. The newly turned 15 year old is so excited.

When asked what advice she would give to other parents looking to get their child into the business she said, " Go with your gut feeling and your personal experience." Cindy's advice to a new model is, " Always be true to yourself. If you're uncomfortable at a shoot, for instance, verbalize that."

"One Source Talent provides a good product. You give people the tools they need and open doors but it's up to the casting directors if the talent get the job. You provide every resource possible and you encourage."
