Smart & Healthy Choices when Eating Out | One Source Talent Blog

If your like me, you like to eat... A LOT! And don't always have time to prepare a healthy meal. The solution to that is simple. It's about making healthy and smart choices when going out to dinner. These simple decisions can help you to obtain that perfect model body you always wanted! Here are a few helpfull tips courtesy of K J Fitness:

·         Order sauces and dressings on the side to control portions and overall fat/sodium intake.

·         Balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, and fresh salsa are great low-calorie, low-sodium condiments.

·         Ask that menu items be prepared "light" with no butter or olive oil.

·         Remember that soup isn't always a healthy choice. Restaurants often serve hearty, creamy soups loaded with fat and sodium. If soup is what you crave, opt for a cup instead of a bowl and stick with soups that have clear broths such as minestrone and chicken noodle; avoid creamy, cheesy soups.

·         Make substitutions. Steamed veggies for French fries. Baked potato for slaws, etc.

·         Look for key words on the menu, such as baked, grilled, broiled, or steamed. Avoid fried food.

·         Breads are okay and are primarily low in fat. It is the butter and oil that you add to the bread that increases the fat content. Always ask for toast "dry".

·         Opt for whole grains such as whole wheat bread or brown rice, as there is more nutritional value and fewer "empty calories" in these options

·         Stick to dishes with fresh herbs, garlic and lemon - herbs are calorie free, flavor enhancers.

·         If you are craving desert, opt for sorbet or fresh fruit with a dab of whipped cream. Avoid cakes, pies, and cookies which inevitably are made with eggs, oils and fats.

·         Drink coffee, diet soda, and water. Avoid juices, regular soda.

·         If drinking alcohol, limit alcohol consumption to one drink and consume plenty of water to combat dehydration and bloating.
