Many new and old actors have bad habits when it comes to auditioning. Being professional and having the correct etiquette is very important when trying out for a role. An audition is an opportunity through which you can demonstrate your talent, so don't mess it up by
having bad etiquette.
BE EARLY!
The rule of thumb is to be around 15 minutes early. You do not want to be there too early and you defiantly do not what to be late. But 15 minutes is just enough time to show that you are serious about the role. You should get ready early and leave early; be prepared for any traffic. If by some chance you are running late, always give a courtesy call to the casting director to let them know.
ALWAYS BRING A HEADSHOT AND RESUME
Even if you are told you do not need one, you should always have one. Your headshot can be in black and white or in color and should have your resume attached to the back with the words facing out. Even if you don't have any experience, make sure your contact information is on your resume. It is one more thing they can refer to after you leave.
BE QUIET
When waiting, you want to be polite and treat everyone with respect. Believe us! An assistant will tell the casting director about how you were rude.
EXCUSES...EXCUSES...EXCUSES...
Casting Directors hate excuses; you should avoid them like the plague. The best way to handle this is to be prepared. Have any lines memorized, be on time and make sure you are dressed properly.
BE RELAXED
Many actors use breathing exercises to get relaxed. Try to visualize the scene you are there to perform. Sometimes listening to music does the trick. So bring your ipod.
