Vanessa Quintana, One Source Talent Phoenix based talent has just finished filming her first film, "Mr. Unemployed". Vanessa has been a talent with us since July. Vanessa had such a great time on the film, she wanted to share her story.
"My life has always been a pretty busy one. In the past few years I've managed to get married, have a beautiful baby boy, and graduate college...all without stopping to smell the roses. But as my life finally began to slow down, I felt like there was still something I wanted to accomplish. I figured it's never too late to keep reaching for your dreams, and so, my One Source Talent journey began.
They immediately began casting me to various events, landing me on a catalog shoot and a
couple short films. It was all very exciting, but the greatest experience came during the independent film, "Mr. Unemployed."
I remember being nervous for the audition, but hoping to break the ice, I decided to write on my sign-in sheet, "I know I don't have much experience, but please don't doubt me." After a couple call-back auditions, director Marcus Stricklin finally called and said, "I like how you wrote ‘don't doubt me'...congratulations, we're offering you the role." I felt like a little kid, smiling from ear-to-ear, I was so excited. Then came the hard part; I had to dig inside myself and find extreme anger in order to play the part of "Sheri," the outrageously angry girlfriend of the film. Thanks to co-writer Melissa Homiski, she was able to work with me on a personal level, coaching me into becoming the angry, aggressive character that I needed to be. It wasn't easy, but when I got it down, it was so much fun.
Everyday on set was a joyous one. I couldn't have asked for a better cast and crew to work with on my first feature film. I felt like I was acting with a group of comedians, there was never a dull moment. Brandon Wagg, co-writer and main actor, played my boyfriend in the film. He was so energetic, great to work off of, and extremely patient, especially during all the takes that I had to hit him in the face! One of the camera crew told me, "You're the kind of character that audiences hate, but that means you're doing a good job, we're just glad you're not like that in real life." It's not everyday that a person is applauded for being so mean, but it made me happy that they were impressed with my performance.
I was sad to have it all come to an end, but it made me realize that this is something I can definitely do again. I feel like I made a new group of friends, and I hope I can work with them again in the future. I just hope that future films are as great of an experience as this one turned out to be. I trust One Source Talent will make that possible for me. Thank you One Source, because without you, I would never have had the opportunity to continue to follow and live my dream."
