The James Cameron film Avatar took first place at the box office this weekend with an impressive 73 million dollars. If you want to include what it brough in overseas as well- for a 5 day opening, the total comes to 159.2 million.

The film is about a paraplegic marine dispatched to the planet Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

Coming in 2nd place is Disney's The Princess and the Frog followed by The Blind Side. While the New Moon craziness is dying down, the Twilight film still came in 5th place bringing the gross to 275 million.
