Staying in Shape and Looking Good

         1.   Start eating healthy and exercise!

  • There's no magical pill or machine that's going to 'melt away the pounds'!  It takes hard work and determination!  Make sure you have realistic goals, then you'll be more prone to stick to your regimen.
    • Never crash diet!  If there's a big day coming up that you want to look fabulous at, give yourself enough time to do it properly!  A crash diet is only a temporary fix and the weight will come right back!
  • You need to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight.  So put down the cheeseburger and start exercising!  All you need to do is make smart choices when it comes to food.  I'm not telling you to deprive yourself of every indulgence just have them less frequently and in smaller portions!  The 100 calorie pack snacks are a great alternative!
    • Portion contol:  The restaurant biz is catching up to this trend.  Some restaurants are offering menu items in smaller portions and desserts have been downsized to shot glass sizes!  Try to always opt for the lunch portion too, not only will you save on calories but you'll also save a couple of bucks!
2.    Exercise 3-5 times a week.

  • 30-45 minutes of cardio
    • If you like running on a treadmill to get your cardio, good for you!  But if you're like me and hate running try out pilates!  The first couple of classes I couldn't stop laughing because the stretches were so foreign to me but once I got the hang of it not only did I get an entire body cardio fix, it improved my flexibility and my posture which was surprising!
  • Strength training
    • Don't concentrate only on certain body parts.  Strength train your entire body!  Building muscle helps you lose fat.  A pound of muscle burns 60 calories, while a pound of fat burns 5 calories! ....

Most aspiring actors think that TV and movies are the way to go, but you can be just as successful acting in commercials. Sing Your Heart Out

When most people think about being famous or getting noticed the first thing that comes to mind is being an actress or actor. There are many elements of the entertainment business, acting, modeling, commercial acting, extra work and singing are the most popular.

There was a time when getting into the music industry was very difficult, but with the technology out there today it’s much simpler to get your foot in the door. Most of us even have the simple tools at home (computers) to make our own music for next to nothing.

There are a few simple tips that you can follow to start honing your singing skills before you set to make it big.

  • First and foremost, learn how to sing!  This is the foundation of your career as a singer. While there are some performers making a career out of singing when they don't really sing all that well, it's those people who hone their craft as singers and continually improve their form and ability who command the most respect as singers.
  • Study singers whom you admire. How do they sing? How did they become professional singers? What kind of crowd do they cater to? What is their signature style?
  • Become comfortable as a performer. Get over your stage fright (if you have it) and start gaining some practical experience by singing wherever and whenever you get a chance to do so in front of a group of people (karaoke bars, parties, school talent shows, etc.).
  • Investing in lessons and books on vocal technique can really help save your voice. You may be able to sing as high as Mariah Carey but if you do it incorrectly, you may damage your voice.
  • Develop your own style. Experiment with different ways of singing and different types of music and find one that fits your personality and makes the most of your voice at the same time. You want people to be able to recognize your voice when they hear it.
  • Practice your songs at home, in the shower, in your car, anywhere and anytime! You'll never get better if you don't practice. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Some of you might know that one of our own at One Source Talent, Diamond White is making it big right now using her singing gift to entertain thousands in the  production of The Color Purple.

Start practicing, because later we get into the marketing side of the music business. You can even go the rout of American Idol, just please try not to end up in one of these segments.
