Charlene Ayers Vomacka - A Model's Story

Charlene Ayers Vomacka Hello everyone, my name is Charlene Ayers Vomacka. I am currently 19 years old, and started modeling when I was 14. I first signed with an agency in San Francisco, CA. For San Francisco being such a small Market, I did extremely well. After putting in months of hard work, and endless castings, I finally started working and making good money.

Then the work just kept coming. I no longer went to castings, and they would call and book me directly. My agency would say don't you want to see her first? But no, they would just book me because they all knew me. Since it was such a small tight market it was nice to be on the inside of it. But it took a long time to get that way. I did a ton of commercial print work (Macy's, Mervyn's, etc). Also a lot of magazines like Teen, Seventeen, Red, and Martha Stewart Bridesmaid … One that really stands out was when I was in high school I wanted to do HS Rodeo, but I never had the time for it. They sent out a monthly newsletter to all of the people who enrolled and it was basically like a Rodeo magazine. Well, you go to flip through the magazine and what do you see? Me! That's right me being pushed in a wheel barrel by one of the biggest calf ropers in the state that everyone looked up to, sporting my Ariat Boots (the job was for Ariat Boots if you didn't catch that).

Charlene Ayers Vomacka When I went to school I didn't really want to tell people that I was a model because high school girls can be pretty judgmental sometimes. Well, I didn't have to tell them. Teen magazine did it all for me. Every girl reads that magazine, and I guess they notice when someone in their class is in it. So, after that I guess I was "stuck up" even though I was the same person before they saw the picture. Then my next year in school I had to go to Independent studies because I was probably only going to school about 2-3 days a week, and the rest were jobs, or going out of town, or something to do with modeling. Once I was on Independent studies I decided I wanted to expand my work, so I hooked up with an agency in Los Angeles. Which was about 7 hours from where I lived (give or take and hour or two because sometimes my mom had the biggest lead foot you've ever drove with). LA wasn't as good to me as the smaller market San Francisco. I would go to castings and the lines would not only be out the door, but down the stairs and around the hall. Just for a music video! I had a hard time in LA. Once I got there I was told to drop 15-20 lbs, so, I did. And they were happy. It still was a huge market for such a young girl (I was then about 16 trying to break in that tough market). The hardest part for me was the drive. It put a lot of stress on my mom, but she did it. Parents have to be totally 110% supportive of their kids in their dreams, because if they aren't, than you may never know what you could have done, or what you could have been. And I have a ton of great memories and pictures and I owe it all to my Mom and Dad for being so supportive, my Mom especially for driving me everywhere!

Charlene Ayers Vomacka I am now with One Source Talent. I wish I knew about this kind of opportunity years ago when I was paying out that 15-20% to my agency (I forget the exact percent... but I know it added up after a while). I was probably paying out my agency about $500-1000 a month. That is a LOT if you think about it! I am not sure what I was thinking. Now that I am with One Source Talent I have endless opportunities and make my own decisions. I don't have to make someone else happy for me to do well in this market. Since I stopped modeling about 2 years ago, I did my own thing, got a real job, and then about a year ago got married. I have kind of let myself go since I have been married and I am very comfortable in my marriage and I think that is why. I also just recently started working for One Source Talent, and like I said earlier, I wish I found them 5 years ago! Its great to not only work for a company I believe in, but show everyone that I believe in them enough to work and be part of them. Since I have joined up with this company, I am working on getting back in shape and working out to get where I want to be. Currently I would be called a plus size model, but I still feel great about it and I'm happy to be able to work in this industry again. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!
